To ask about afterlife beliefs is standard when doing research on religion, but how do the living in actual practice relate to the dead? Based on ongoing research on Danish churchyards this presentation will try to give some answers to this question. I especially focus on how gravestones and objects placed on graves are used to mediate relations between the living and the dead.
